Disciplinary matters
All students (whether completing a program through Recognition pathways, distance education, blended delivery or entirely workshop attendance) are required to indicate on the STU-FOR-007 Student Induction Checklist that they have read and understood this document.
It is very rare for the Academy to take disciplinary action against a candidate. Applicants generally are adults who understand the professionalism required to work in this industry. On occasion, however, we need to be firm and act in the best interests of the workshop participants and the Academy. However, we also recognise that we can do little to moderate or monitor the behaviour of self-paced candidates. The Academy also recognises that it is impossible to regulate the entire range of human behaviour, so the following comments are a guide only.
All applicants should be aware that we have a policy of zero tolerance for discriminatory behaviour . We require all staff and candidates to acknowledge that modern Australia has a diverse cultural and spiritual heritage, a heritage which deserves respect and tolerance.
The same policy applies to abusive or threatening behaviour.
These behaviours are illegal and any candidate displaying them shall be dismissed from their course. Where necessary, the candidate's actions may be referred to the authorities.
Applicants are also advised that the Academy grounds and training rooms (whether internal or off-site) are non-smoking areas. We recognise that some people enjoy cigarettes but ask that this be done with respect to those who do not. Workshop participants will be advised during the orientation session where they may have their cigarette.
The Academy encourages active participation in workshops; in many cases, it is required. However, disruptive behaviour is not tolerated as it delays the training process and makes it difficult for fellow participants to learn effectively.

Disciplinary process
This is covered in more detail in the Academy's policy. A copy is available upon request.
- In the first instance, the candidates shall be cautioned regarding their actions or behaviour should it fall below professional expectations.
- If the behaviour or action is repeated, a formal written caution is handed to the candidate and issued during a private counselling session held with the Director of Studies and the relevant trainer/assessor. That session shall establish parameters for the candidate's behaviour. Both the caution and a summary of the counselling session shall be signed by the Academy and the candidate, with both parties retaining a copy.
- A third repetition shall lead to suspension of the candidate's enrolment. Where appropriate, the candidate may be referred to legal authorities or external counselling and support services. In extreme cases, the candidate may have their enrolment terminated at this point.
These comments, while being relevant to all candidates, are of special interest to all candidates attending workshops.
