The Australian Skills Voucher programs are intended to be delivered through flexible arrangements. Though commencement sessions are set on the first working Monday of each month, subsequent sessions will be conducted at times and dates negotiated with each applicant.
This means we will provide sessions at times which suit you, including on weekends and in the evening, if you are unable to attend mentoring sessions or workshops at any other time. HBTA is a flexible delivery specialist, with most internal resources and all student manuals having a self-paced or mentored focus.Resources and facilities
Candidates enrolled in training programs and short courses receive a study guide and workbook that describe how the program will be delivered and assessed. These are supplemented with readers and multimedia resources as appropriate to the specific unit being attempted.
The Academy maintains an extensive library of resources which is available for reference by staff and students. Within the guidelines stipulated under copyright legislation, the Academy can provide photocopies for candidates unable to access the library independently.
Many of these resources are in electronic format and can be sent by email if the copyright conditions will allow this.
Academy facilities at Helensvale include:
- a training room that can accommodate up to six students
- individual mentoring room
- staff / candidate library (all items on Reserve but some titles from Sea Eagle Publications are available for purchase)
- computer with broadband internet access (fee applies), word processing and presentation software
Other leased venues have computer systems and training facilities suited to groups of up to 20 participants. To make sure that all participants have an opportunity to use the computers, we will limit computer-based workshops to the number of computers in that facility.

Student support services
The Academy recognises that candidates may need assistance to complete their program. Our policy STU-POL-006 Student support provides clear guidelines on the delivery of appropriate support to candidates.
Academy staff are chosen for their professional, industry and educational expertise. In addition, HBTA supports an environment based on the fostering of personal development and respect for the cultural and spiritual beliefs of others.
To this end, the school gives candidates access to support through contact with staff members, fellow candidates and school facilities. This is facilitated through providing the candidate with their trainer/assessor's email and telephone contact details. In addition, the trainer/assessor is required to make regular contact with the candidate to assist with any training issues that may arise. The frequency and method for this contact is determined by the candidate's training program but shall be no less than quarterly.
Welfare and guidance support
In addition to client support, the Academy provides some welfare and guidance assistance. This is more specialised and has a broader range than client support.
Some candidates find that "life happens". Family members fall ill; people need to relocate; their employment may change. All of these (and many other events) can affect the candidate's ability to cope with their training program.
Where appropriate, Academy support will provide initial support and guidance. However, personal and social issues are best addressed by professionals trained to assist people with these issues. We therefore will refer candidates to professional support personnel as and where necessary.- top -
