About the SSQ Recognition program
This program is an initiative of the Queensland Government and is intended for residents of this State who meet certain requirements. This page provides an overview of Recognition, including some examples of appropriate evidence and conditions you need to bear in mind when making a Recognition Application. The Department of Education and Training also provide some information about this valuable assessment pathway.
Essentially, this initiative recognises that people like you are not "blank slates". You have a range of existing skills and these may be sufficient to grant you some recognition towards your training programme. These skills and your application of them need to be evaluated before you enrol and commence formal training.
The Queensland Government established Skilling Solutions Queensland to help people like you improve their chances of succeeding in today's competitive job market. Interviews are conducted in person and their highly trained professional staff will help you "work out what skills you already have and what skills you need to gain" so you can obtain and retain the job you want.
Their services are designed for people who:
- are currently working but do not have formal qualifications
- seek formal qualifications so they can start or change their career
- are considering a new career or returning to work
- were made redundant or were retrenched but may not be eligible for a Structural Adjustment Place through the Productivity Places Program
Skilling Solutions Queensland does not guarantee that you will receive Recognition. Each RTO must make its own determination based on the evidence you provide. Also, we can only consider the evidence you submit for the qualification mentioned in the referral letter. If you change your mind about the qualification, you will need to discuss your options with Skilling Solutions Queensland.
Depending on the evidence which you provide, one of the following will occur:
- your application for Recognition is confirmed for the specific units or certificate
- your application for Recognition is not fully confirmed and gap training may be required
- your application for Recognition is not confirmed and you will be counselled as to the appropriate action you need to take

Fees
Though approved applicants will receive $500 towards the cost of their Recognition assessment, you do still have to pay a proportion of the enrolment fee. This amount will vary depending on whether any 'gap training' or full unit training is required in addition to the Recognition awarded.
Recognition enrolment fees are:
- Certificate III qualifications
- $950 for Recognition-only
- $1,260 if we need to conduct training and assessment, regardless of how many units are required
- Certificate IV qualifications
- $1,050 for Recognition-only
- $1,260 if we need to conduct training and assessment, regardless of how many units are required
These fees include the $500 we receive from Skilling Solutions Queensland.
