Existing Worker Traineeships

What are they?
Existing Worker Traineeships are a form of traineeship program which apply to current workers who have been employed for at least three months. In Queensland, there is no longer an 'upper limit' for how long the worker has been employed.
The programs operate in a similar way to an Australian Apprenticeship or Traineeship:
- the employer provides on-job training and supervision
- a Supervising Registered Training Academy (such as Healthy Business Training Academy) provides more general skills development and assessment
- an Australian Apprenticeshop Centre coordinates the contractual and financial aspects of the traineeship
When all parties work together, the program can be very rewarding for the trainee and employer.
Though HBTA visits an existing worker trainee at their workplace, our training sessions usually occur without the distractions of performing actual duties unless specific unit requirements indicate that this is the better course of action. The supervisor is usually responsible for providing job-specific training that matches a unit or units currently being undertaken. HBTA can support on-job training, if necessary.

What does it cost?
Our standard enrolment fees apply and include all resource costs. However, any internet access or computer and software upgrades are excluded from course fees. On-job training, unless provided by HBTA, is also excluded.
In most cases, the employer pays for the training and assessment, with payment plans put in place to reflect the training actually undertaken. A contract is put in place between HBTA and the employer which will address this, in addition to a range of other important issues.
We recommend that you contact an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (such as Busy at Work) for further information on payment rates and cycles, as well as eligibility requirements. This page is useful for locating an AAC near you and for obtaining further information about traineeships in general.
