This Certificate covers workers in a range of work roles who provide assistance to health professional staff with teh care of clients. Health Services Assistance involves the worker in direct client contact under supervision.
We are offering a general qualification suited to individuals who might be employed as:
- Patient Service Attendant
- Patient Support Assitant
- Patient Care Assistant
with a focus on home care / home help / transition care.
We deliver the program through recognition and workshops. These pathways may be bleneded (for instance, attending a workshop with some units completed through distance learning). However, the practical assessment taks will require attendance at workshops for some units even for those completing their training through distance education. You can also enrol in individual modules, but doing so one module at a time will be a more expensive way of completing the qualification.
At present, this qualification is not available in Queensland as an Existing Worker Traineeship.

Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
You will need to complete 15 units of competency to complete the full HLT32507 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance. The combination of required core and elective units is identified on our enrolment form.
Entry requirements
This qualification is not available through distance education due to the practical nature of most required units. However, workshop participants can expect to complete some assessment requirements through self-paced learning supported by mentoring as required.
HBTA does restrict enrolments to clients aged 18 - 65 with a minimum Year 10 level of English and Maths.
You will not need to own a computer or specific software, but will be expected to complete some tasks electronically for specific units. Access to unit-specific software outside of workshops is highly recommended for both practice and assessment purposes.
You will also need an unrestricted/open CAR licence before being considered for employment in relevant job roles. We will therefore not be accepting any applications from individuals who currently have a Permit. A safe and clean driving record (in other words, no traffic offences or demerit points) will be considered mandatory by employers who require you to assist with transportation.
If you have any questions, please contact us.
Prerequisite and Corequisite requirements
There are no prerequisite requirements for any unit in this qualification.
However, please note our entry requirements as stated above.

Delivery
This qualification cannot be completed entirely through distance education. Several units have practical assessment requirements (or are best assessed through practical demonstration) and you will therefore need to participate in at least one scheduled workshop. If you are enrolling in Recognition pathways for any of these units, you will need to contact HBTA directly to discuss evidence requirements.
The optional Elective Units HLTCPR201A Perform CPR and HLTFA301B Apply first aid are currently available only through National Recognition. You will need to complete these units through the Australian Red Cross or Queensland Ambulance Service, then forward certified copies of your certificate which lists the appropriate unit to us.
Please contact us for further details.

Enrolment fees are listed on our enrolment form and information brochure. They include all training resources needed to complete your program but exclude internet access, computer equipment and software, travel costs and/or self-catering expenses.

These fees do not carry GST.

Recognition assessment
There are many ways to complete a program. This process recognises that you may not be a 'clean slate'. You may have completed training with another organisation (registered or unregistered training organisation or witn an employer, for example). You may also have working and life experience which you can use to demonstrate that you can already fulfill the tasks required by your chosen unit/s of competency.
There are four ways you can obtain a recognition assessment:
- Recognition of Prior Learning - your previous learning experiences & decided on the basis of documentary or interview evidence
- Recognition of Current Competencies - your current skills and skills, gained through a variety of means which do not inlcude formal learning, decided using a variety of methods
- National Recognition - automatically applies for an identical unit (same code, title and standards) in your program with us
- Credit Transfer - requires a judgement on our part between broadly equivalent (but not identical) Units or modules (combination of units) from accredited courses.
If you are interested in applying for Recognition, we recommend that you read the Health Programs RPL Handbook before contacting us and requesting an Application for an RPL Kit. The Handbook contains important and useful information regarding the collection of appropriate evidence. It also describes the process which we are obliged to follow in assessing Recognition applications.
